Common Core and Traditional American Culinary Values

(Sacramento, CA) – Sometimes conventional wisdom should triumph truth. There are harmless beliefs that pervade our society, and keep it together, regardless of their accuracy. These are the beliefs that we firmly embrace as true Americans.

One belief that had been foundational to our shared American experience has been forever tainted, beyond the ability of our society to repair; all due to the introduction of Common Core standards in our nation’s public schools.

Here is a sample question from a Common Core Home Economics exam leaked earlier this year:

Q: What are the two main ingredients in Mac & Cheese?

Most of us could answer this question without hesitation, but our answers would likely be different from the required Common Core answer:

A: Flour and milk

Teachers in the Sacramento area have begun a protest aimed to revise the exam to reflect the cultural-standard answer of “macaroni and cheese.”

Area teachers are counting on your support of their protest on February 23rd at 12:00pm throughout the city. There is no need to sign up, just join the crowd with the solidarity chant:

Flour, milk, go away, Mac and cheese are here to stay.
